Artist Sebastian Ellis entertains at the Bluewater Summer Playhouse

By Tammy Schneider

Described by artistic director Ralph Small as a musical genius, singer-songwriter and pianist Sebastian Ellis performs as if he has been on stage for decades. After performing his one-man show Outlaw: The Rock ’n Roll Story in Kincardine in 2018, Ellis has embarked on a tour in 2019 that included a stop in Kincardine and featured music with his own twist, songs from his first album and music from his recently released album. Ellis spends the entire concert at his piano, accompanied by only a percussionist and electric guitar. At the piano, he is pure magic, playing without thought or concentration. His original songs, taken from both his first and second albums, are about love and hope, and were upbeat and optimistic. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the toe-tapping music. Interspersed between original compositions he performed old favourites – Earth Angel, Pretty Woman and The House of the Rising Sun. Besides being an accomplished musician, Ellis is also incredibly witty. He shared stories about his travels, songwriting and artists who inspired him, including Hank Williams and Neil Sedaka. The Bluewater Summer Playhouse has a full slate of talented performers booked for the coming summer months. Green River Revival will perform their tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival in early July, followed by Fair and Square, a comedy written by Derek Ritschel and directed by Ralph Small. Fair and Square plays July 16 through 27. The summer schedule and tickets for all shows are available through the website at www.bluewatersummerplayhouse.com or by contacting the box office at 519-396-5722.
