Silver Stick comes to Kincardine

By Doug Kennedy
The Silver Stick Tournament is always a busy week in Kincardine, with 35 teams playing in the peewee and bantam division this year. We lost the novice division because of rule changes this year. Our peewee and bantam divisions have really good teams this year, so it will be great to come out to watch. Kincardine Legion peewees play on Friday, Dec. 27, at 4:45 p.m. vs Listowel in Kincardine. On Saturday, they play Mitchell at 8:30 a.m. in Tiverton and at 4:45 p.m. against Twin Center in Tiverton. The Beisel Contracting bantams play all games in Kincardine. They start Friday, Dec. 27 at 6 p.m. vs Walkerton and then on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.against Tavistock.

Jordan Caskenette has been one of the best players on the Kincardine Bulldogs the last three years. He is a really good lacrosse player. He has accepted a division two scholarship at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he is enrolled in the sports management program. He will be playing his last two games this weekend for the Bulldogs.
One thing I miss about not being with the Bulldogs this year is the interaction with the players. It is a big commitment for these kids to play hockey every weekend for six or seven months while going to college or university. For example, Danny Skinner is taking the aeronautics leadership course at the University of Windsor, after which he will be able to fly planes.

The KDSS boys hockey team lost a tough one at home last week at home to Sacred Heart by a score of 4- 1. They scored a couple into an empty net to make it a bigger win. Kincardine outshot them 25-12 but lost. Liam Colhoun hit three goal posts, which I am sure will be goals the next time they meet. Wilson Shipp scored the only goal unassisted.

I am always looking for local sports stories. If you know of kids or adults or teams I am missing, please email me at dkca@bmts.com
