The 183 Typhoon Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron celebrated the holidays with tropical flair at their annual Christmas dinner on Dec. 16 at the Kincardine Legion.
Close to 70 people, including cadets, their siblings, parents and grandparents were in attendance to enjoy the themed evening that included a Christmas meal, a gift exchange and bingo.
The evening, which was designed as a family event to help create a sense of community among cadets and their families, was organized by the Legion sponsoring committee. The committee, composed of volunteers, fundraises to pay for events such as this dinner, which is free to cadets. It also helps pay for activities and events the cadets can take part in throughout the year.
The squadron sponsoring committee chairperson is Carole Douel. She talked about how such events build community and fellowship among the cadets.
“We want them to feel like this is a family,” said Douel. “We believe it is important to get the parents involved as well, which is why we call it a family event.”
The sponsoring committee welcomes new volunteers and people interested do not have to be Legion members to participate. For more information please contact Douel by email at email@example.com or through the cadets Facebook page, 183 Typhoon Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.
