Mark your calendar for the third annual Handbags for Hospice event

On Sept. 19, 168 people will gather at the Kincardine Pavilion to shop and show their support for the Huron Shores Hospice at the Handbags for Hospice fundraiser.
This is the third year for the event, which to date has raised $324,000. Because the hospice is 100 per cent community funded, all of the money raised is used to cover the annual operating expenses of $187,000.
The 2019 event will be an exciting one. Guests will be greeted with a welcome cocktail and served delicious appetizers, provided by Gavin Fick and served by celebrity hosts. The fun really begins when Layne, The Auctionista, takes the stage. She is fast, fun and very entertaining. Of the 90 bags that will be available for purchase, 85 will be sold by silent auction. Layne will sell the remaining five by live auction, as well as three or four “experience” packages that have, in the past, included fine dining, a harbour cruise and overnight stays.
All items in the auction have either been donated, or purchased with sponsorships provided by local businesses. Carol Rencheck, affectionately known as “the handbag queen” by her colleagues, takes care of purchasing the bags for the event.
“This is our biggest fundraiser for the year,” said Hospice co-chair Cheryl Cottrill . “We have had tremendous support from the community. This fundraiser alone last year provided our annual budget to operate the Hospice.”
Because of the popularity of the event, it is expected that it will sell out quickly. The $50 tickets will go on sale on Aug. 7 at 7:30 a.m. and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Last year the event was sold out in one day. Tickets can be purchased through the Hospice website at www.huronshoreshospice.ca. Information regarding sponsorship packages can also be viewed on the website, or by contacting cheryl@huronshoreshospice.ca.
