28th Gathering of the Bands draws thousands to Victoria Park By Tammy Schneider

Victoria Park was brimming with music fans during the Gathering of the Bands concert on Aug. 24. The free event opened at noon with the Kincardine Community Concert Band, and was followed by nine more groups that thoroughly entertained the crowds. A beer tent was on site, as well as an allyou-can-eat service of hot dogs and corn on the cob. Souvenir items, shirts, hats and books
were available for purchase. Countless volunteers manned booths and stations throughout the park. At 8 p.m., the crowds assembled along Queen Street in anticipation of the mass pipe and drum parade. The parade made its way past the throng of residents and tourists, who followed the band to the Quinn Plaza. During a short break, parade-goers were able to meet the pipers and drummers before heading back to Victoria Park. Follow
ing the return to the park, guests enjoyed a final performance. The event continued well into the evening. The Gathering of the Bands event has been a staple in the Kincardine community since 1992. Pipers and drummers from outside the area are invited to take part. The gathering is a show of appreciation by the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band to the public, for all of its support.
