30th annual Silver Stick tournament underway

The 30th annual Kincardine Regional Silver stick is officially underway.

A full day of action is just about in the books, highlighted by a 4-0 shutout win for the Kincardine Timber Mart bantam Kinucks at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

The bantams also won this morning to carry a 2-0 record into the third and final preliminary round game Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

Knights play for BAA title at 530pm

Kincardine District Secondary School has a chance to win a Bluewater Athletic Association senior girls basketball championship this evening at home.

The Knights will take Grey Highlands Secondary School of Flesherton for a BAA title at 5:30 p.m. today (Friday).

McFadden named to Team OHL

Garrett McFadden was named to Team OHL yesterday and will play against Russia in the annual Subway Super Series. The Russians will face Team OHL Nov. 10 in North Bay and Nov. 14 in Hamilton. McFadden had an assist Friday night in a 5-2 win Friday night over North Bay. (Josh Howald photo)

Three vy for Tiverton crown

Three young ladies are seeking the title of Tiverton Fall Fair Ambassador this weekend.

Gina Spiridaki, Rylee Evans and Hailey Woods will go up before the judges on Friday night. The Ambassador contest begins at 8 p.m. Friday and kicks off a full weekend of events. For the full Fall Fair schedule, don't miss this week's print edition of The Kincardine Independent.

Gina Spiridaki

Gina Spiridaki is the daughter of Angela Smythe and John Smith of Tiverton. She is proudly sponosred by Ken Jackson Construction, Ltd. The Sacred Heart High School student works part-time at McDonalds. She enjoys photograpghy, travellinga and making people laugh. She is on the student's council at SHHS, and also a member of the Yearbook and Latergical Dance. In the future she hopes to attend University and study International Development.


Huron United wins Premier League title

Huron United posted a 4-0 win on Sunday afternoon to win the SouthWest Ontario Soccer Association Premier Men’s League championship.

The win gave Huron United a final season record of 11-1-2. The win also leaves the club expecting to be promoted to the KDSL. It would be the team's second promotion since 2014.

Sunday's Premier League final in Listowel was scoreless at the half. But United began to create chances in the second half and eventually broke out offensively. Striker Derek Andrew finally opened the scoring after taking a pass from Gerrit Satosek and finishing from six yards out.

Bulldogs open season Saturday

There isn't a better way, and that's the way the season will begin Saturday night for the Nicol Insurance Kincardine Bulldogs.

Cubs hunt for OBA title this weekend

The Kincardine Cubs will be in Kendal this weekend looking to win another provincial senior baseball championship this weekend.

The Cubs, fresh off winning the Thames Valley Senior Baseball League playoff pennant, won the OBA A tournament last year and the OBA B title in 2014.

The Cubbies will kick off the weekend with a Friday night game against Peterborough.
