BERTHA BECKSMITH

 

Bertha Irene Becksmith, formerly of Tiverton and Kincardine from 2001-2004, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the Windsor Regional Hospital, in her 65th year.

Beloved wife of Thomas. Loving mother of Mechele (John); Lee (Tawnya), Diane (David), Wade (Heather), Calvin (Tammy) and Marshal (Tammy).

Daughter of Rhoda, and daughter-in-law to Claire. Loving sister to Evelyn, Judy, Gail and Larry. Sister-in-law to Florence and Brian Lloyd, of Windsor and formerly of Kincardine.

Loving grandmother to 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her father Lester; her father-in-law Fred; and son Dayle.

WILFRED DANFORTH

Wilfred (Bill) Danforth, Second World Veteran, of Ripley and formerly of Point Clark passed away at Wingham Hospital on Saturday, March 7, 2009, having recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1919 to the late Jessie (Alderton) and Warren Danforth. 

Beloved husband of the late Avis Nadine (Wilson), whom he married in 1945. 

Survived by two sons: Bruce (Hilda) Danforth, of Whitby; and Douglas (Michele) Danforth, of St. Charles. Also greatly missed by six grandchildren: Mark, Jamie, Peter, Colin, Michael and Paul; as well as by five great grandchildren; and his sister Dorothy (Bill) Vize, of London. 

Predeceased by son Scott, and brother Harold (Isabelle) Danforth.

FRANCES KEIL

Frances Mary Keil (née Jesperson) passed away Feb. 23, 2009 at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine, in her 87th year.

Beloved wife of the late Howard Cowan and George Keil.

Sadly missed by children Glen (Carol) Cowan, of Tiverton; Lynn (Ron) Nicholson, of Ripley; and Kim (Debbie) Cowan, of Kitchener. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren: Tiffany (Mark) Price, Christina (Ted) Kalchos, Michael (Diane) Nicholson, Joshua (Heather) Cowan, and Jordan Cowan; and by great-grandchildren Anne and Joshua Price; Linnea and Noland Kalchos; and Angela, Tasha and Cameron Nicholson.

Survived by brothers Les (Betty) Jesperson, of Yakima, Washington, USA; Russ (Doreen) Jesperson, of Chilliwack, B.C.; Allen (Anne) Jesperson, of Chilliwack, B.C.; and Ivan (Molly) Jesperson, of Victoria, B.C.

JACK CONNELL

Jack Alexander Connell, of Kincardine, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre-Kincardine, on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, in his 78th year. 

Beloved husband of Lee Connell (née Burgess).  Dear father of Tamis (Dean) Rackley, of Kincardine. 

Cherished grandfather of Kyla and Kelsey.  Loved brother of Bob Connell, of Mississauga; and brother-in-law of Nancy Connell, of Kincardine. 

Predeceased by his daughter Elizabeth, and  his brother Bill Connell. 

Visitation was held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009,  from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Cluley officiating. 

Interment Kincardine Cemetery.

AGNES JEAN MACDONALD

Agnes Jean MacDonald "Pat" (née Buckingham) of Point Clark died at South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine, on Friday, February 13, 2009 in her 86th year.

Dear mother of Anna (Thomas) Lunn of Shedden and Cecilia Gorman (Frank Murdie) of Point Clark. Sadly missed by her grandchildren, Kimberley (Derek) Weaver, Chris (Holly) Lunn, Brendan (Patricia) Gorman and Charles (Janine) Gorman, great-grandchildren Gavin and Brody Weaver and Brycen and Jayce Lunn, her nieces Karen and Susan and her nephew Bruce.

Predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Helen (Zwick) Buckingham, sister Frances Sebben, brother Charles Buckingham and sister-in-law June Buckingham.  Dear friend of Ed Thacker of Point Clark and Nancy McKinley of Kincardine.

Kathleen Cuyler was Kincardine's oldest resident

KATHLEEN JEAN CUYLER

Kathleen Jean Cuyler (née Ferrier), of Kincardine, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine, on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in her 105th year. Kathleen Cuyler was Kincardine’s oldest resident.

Born Sept. 21, 1904, in Bervie, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Rachel Ferrier.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Cuyler, who died in 1959.

MARJORIE COX 

Marjorie Leone Cox (née Waye) passed away peacefully at home in Tiverton among family on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at age 59. 

She will be sadly missed by Ward, her husband of 31 years; and by her two children: Adam (Elizabeth Brown), of Oshawa; and Adrienne (Geoff) Gautreau, of Goderich. 

Marjorie was the second child of Ernest and Dorothy Waye (née Thompson), both deceased, of Picton. 

Survived by her siblings: Audra Branscombe, of Edmonton; Andrea Branscombe, of Kansas City, Missouri; Derek Branscombe, of Barrie; Ronald Barclay, of Peterborough; as well as by her adopted Mom, Audra Barclay, of Milton.

Katie Jane Donovan died following a lengthy illness, in her 33rd year.

Beloved daughter of Dianne (Neil) Donovan and sister of Neil C. Donovan, of Toronto.

Predeceased by her father Graham J. Donovan.

Loved neice of Nancy Connell, of Kincardine; Peter Donovan, of the USA; and Jill and David Peart, of England.

A memorial service will be held in Kincardine, Ontario at a later date.

Emma Lorentz passed away peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville, Ontario, on Monday Jan. 12, 2009 at the age of 85 years.

ALMA GILLIES

 

Alma E. Gillies (née Henderson), beloved wife of the late Donald Gillies, formerly of Ripley, passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in her 87th year.

She was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Huron Township to the late Irene (Mills) and William Henderson.

Greatly missed by daughter Valerie (David) Gibson, of R.R. 2, Ripley; and by grandchildren: Dan (Trina) Gibson, of London; and Julie (Joseph) Angilella, of Doha, Qatar; and by great grandchildren Beverly, Chloe and Macayla.

Also survived by sister-in-law Evelyn Henderson, of Kincardine, as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by siblings Garnet Henderson, Calvin Henderson and Eudora Owens.

Weir Sheane was former warden of Bruce

 

WEIR ALEXANDER SHEANE

Long-time Kincardine Township politician Weir Alexander Sheane died Dec. 30, 2008, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine. He was in his 77th year.

Born Oct. 12, 1932 on the South Line, he was the son of Wilbert and Mary (MacKenzie) Sheane.

After graduating from Kincardine High School, Weir moved to Hamilton, working as a paroll clerk for a construction company from Pittsburgh. After Hamilton, his company had a contract with Sydney Steel in Nova Scotia where he met his wife to be, Evelyn Kerr.

He later worked for Northern Telecom, based in Toronto. With a young family and being on the road  a great deal, he returned home to Kincardine in 1958, working as a technician with Waterloo Cattle Breeders, now known as Gencor.
