Burnside Memorial Trail dedicated to the memory of Wib Burnside

By Tammy Schneider

A crowd of more than 50 friends and family attended a trail dedication for Wib Burnside on Nov. 5.

Burnside acquired the land in 1995, with the hope of protecting the natural fauna and wetlands and creating a quiet, beautiful spot for residents to enjoy. In 2011, the trail became part of the Kincardine Trail System. The property was donated to the Municipality of Kincardine in 2017, after Burnside's passing the year before, with the condition that the trail be preserved in its natural state.

“This trail is a jewel in the community,” Eadie said during the dedication ceremony. “I give credit to the Burnside family for acting locally.”

After the mayor spoke, Reverend Dunbar read the dedication and prayer, and the signage and memorial plaque were unveiled. It is the hope of the family that Burnside has left a tangible legacy that all will be able to enjoy.
