Information meeting to be held for grades relocation at Kincardine schools

The Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) will hold an information meeting on Nov. 1 to discuss the relocation of grades at Kincardine schools.

In a notice issued last week, the board said that due to significant growth in elementary school enrollment, there is an immediate need to address classroom shortages in September 2019 while board staff works towards a long-term solution.

There are currently sufficient unused excess classrooms at Kincardine District Secondary School, the board says, to accommodate senior elementary students (grades 7 and 8), which will allow the elementary schools to accommodate their growing populations. At the information meeting, staff will share transition plans for the relocation of grades 7 and 8 students and answer parent/guardian questions regarding the changes.

Along with relocating grades 7 and 8 from Elgin Market Public School (EMPS) and Huron Heights Public School (HHPS), Grade 3 students from Kincardine Township Tiverton Public School (KTTPS) will transfer to HHPS for the next school year. KTTPS will host students in junior kindergarten to Grade 2, EMPS will continue as a French immersion school with students from junior kindergarten to Grade 6, HHPS will host grades 3 to 6 and KDSS will host grades 7 to 12 with French immersion.

The information meeting will be held at KDSS on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who would like further details on the plan to relocate grades can visit the school board website at

An email account has been created for parents, guardians and community members to ask questions and/or seek clarification. Common themes from the email submissions will be addressed by board staff at the information meeting and as part of a Q & A on the web page above. Submissions are being accepted at until Friday, Nov. 9.
