Queen Street lots sold for residential and commercial development

Vacant lots in the north section of Kincardine’s downtown will soon be under development.

Lynn Clayton and Charlene Randle Clayton sold the three lots in the 800-block of Queen Street to a company that specializes in residential rentals. Lynn Clayton said the purchaser plans to develop the properties according to a design plan that he and Randle-Clayton developed. That plan was approved by the Municipality of Kincardine back in 2012.

“It just wasn’t the right time then,” Clayton said of the attempt to sell the development plan. “Now is absolutely the right time.”

The planned development will feature commercial units on the main level with 20 apartment units above.

“We are quite excited that it will built according to that plan, which is what is best for the downtown and the best use of that property itself,” Clayton said. “We expect that construction will begin by late spring or early summer.”

Clayton said the zoning approvals are in place.

“The County of Bruce, the Kincardine building and planning department and council have been extremely supportive,” Clayton said.

He said that the purchaser plans to use local contractors and labour for construction and would like the development to be completed as early as possible in 2019.

Clayton said details will be available soon regarding the apartments and commercial spaces for rent.
