With only five scheduled games remaining in the regular season – three of them at home - the Kincardine Jr. C Bulldogs need to make every game count.

They took their momentum of a 7-1 win in Walkerton on Jan. 7 to Mount Forest on Saturday, Jan. 13 and claimed a 5-1 victory against the top team in the division. But the Bulldogs lost by the same score in Wingham the next afternoon.

In Saturday night’s game, both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities but the Patriots failed to score on power plays, while the Bulldogs made three of 10 chances count.

Kincardine dominated the first two periods to take a 4-0 lead – Trevor Donaldson from Brady Richards and Tyler Sutter, Robert White on the power play from Richards and Brett Burrows, Keegan Angel on the power play from Logan Freiburger and Hunter Robins-Gibbons, and Burrows from Sutter and Logan Swanton.

Mount Forest got on the scoreboard in the third period with a goal by Hayden Coulter from Ryan Maksymyk and Shawn Lantz, but the Bulldogs replied with their third power play goal of the game, Mike Fiegehen from Freiburger.

The next day in Wingham, the Ironmen scored twice on five power plays, while the Bulldogs failed to make any of their five count on the scoreboard.

Kincardine came out strong – Derrick Bernath scored from Angel and Burrows part way through the first period. But then it was all Wingham for the rest of the period and all through the second, with goals by Broedy Karelse from Jamie Huber and Carter Collinson, Josh Higgins on the power play from Collinson and Logan Tolton, Rhys Vollmer from Kyle Stanbury and Parker Gibbings, Connor Gibson from Kyle Langlois and Scott Stovel, and Huber on the power play from Collinson and Vollmer.

There was no scoring in the third period.

Mount Forest continues to lead the division with 55 points. Walkerton is in second place with 48. Kincardine is in third with 44; Wingham, with one more game played, also has 44.

The Bulldogs return to home ice Friday, Jan. 19, 8:25 p.m. The next day, Saturday, Jan. 20, 2 p.m., Kincardine plays Walkerton at the Teeswater Community Centre.
