Ripley Wolves Novice and Atom teams claim double victory

It’s great for a place like Ripley to produce a team that brings home a championship trophy from a minor hockey tournament, but to do it twice in one tournament is remarkable.

Both the Ripley Wolves Novice Rep team and Ripley Wolves Atom Rep team headed to Muskoka on the weekend to compete in the annual Muskoka Rock Tournament in Port Carling and Bala.

The Ripley Novices beat Shallow Lake 4-2, Muskoka 11- 2 and Howick 6-4 in round robin play Saturday, Dec. 9 to set up the "A" championship game Sunday, Dec. 10 against Millbrook. The Wolves beat the Millbrook Stars 6-0 in the final to capture the championship trophy.

The Atoms beat Centre Hastings 7-2, Woodville 2-0 and tied Twin centres 2-2 on Saturday to set up their own " A" championship game with the TCDMHA Rebels on Sunday. Ripley prevailed with a 2-1 victory to bring home the trophy.

Manager of both teams, Mike Smith said, “Both teams worked very hard on the weekend. Ripley had lots of fans up in Muskoka that cheered the players to victory. For a small town of Ripley to bring home two championships in one weekend is something for these kids to be very proud of.”
