Car recovered in lagoon


Police were conducting a RIDE checkpoint in Ripley at 2 a.m., Sept. 25, when a grey Toyota Corolla drove past.

The vehicle went east along Park St., and officers located it in a lagoon beyond the east end of Park St. in Ripley. Through investigation, officers determined the car had been reported stolen.

Members of the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team, the OPP Canine Unit and the OPP Aviation Services assisted the South-Bruce OPP with locating the driver. Meanwhile, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit divers helped with recovery of the vehicle.

The search for the occupants of the vehicle continues.

Police remind the public that suspicious vehicles and people should be reported to police as soon as possible so an officer can investigate.
