The Kincardine Kippers wrapped up the 2017 swim season at the South Western Ontario Recreational Swimming Association (SWORSA) finals Aug. 12 at the Wilmot Recreation Complex near New Hamburg, followed by the team’s annual awards night Aug. 15 at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

The Kippers had 39 top-3 finishes in individual events and numerous personal bests. Seven swimmers captured individual medals for overall highest point totals in their age divisions. Bringing home division medals were Ben White (gold boys under-8), Aaron Urie and Evan Graham (tied gold boys 9/10), Burton Bronkhorst (bronze boys 9/10), Avery Chilton (bronze girls 9/10), Kanye Lee (silver boys 11/12) and Lucas Bronkhorst (gold boys 13/14).

Medal and ribbon winners from SWORSA were recognized at the banquet, as well as those who received achievement awards within the club.

Peton Brooker and Lucas Bronkhorst received the BA Eggleton trophy for team spirit and sportsmanship as voted by the swimmers, with Rina Casciano and Alex White winning the Peter Dingle award for team spirit and sportsmanship as picked by the coaches. The Beta Sigma Phi Award for most improved swimmers went to Maia Hinchberger and Lee. Lorelai Moreau-Dalpee won the Emma Johnstone Memorial award for the love of swimming.

The Kippers return to the pool in January to begin training for the 2018 competitive season.
