Kippers qualify for SWORSA

The Kincardine Kippers Swim team wrapped up the regular season at the South Western Ontario Recreational Swimming Association (SWORDA) semi-finals July 29 at the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira.

The meet was a qualifier for the SWORSA finals, which will be held at the Wilmot Recreation Complex near New Hamburg on Saturday. The top eight finishers in each event advanced. Kincardine had a strong showing with 31 swimmers earning a berth at this week’s finals.

In the girls 8 and under division, Becca Thompson qualified with a fifth place finish in 25m backstroke and seventh place finishes in breaststroke and freestyle. Lila Rock advanced with a sixth place in 25m breast and a seventh in 25m back.

In the girls 9 and 10 division, Sophie Rock was first in 25m back and fifth in 50m breast. Samantha D’Arcey was second in 50m free, second in 25m breast and fifth in 25m back. Avery Chilton qualified with a second in 25m back, a fourth in 50m free and a fourth in 25m breast. Breanna Hegmans was second in 50m breast, fourth in 25m back and seventh in 50m free.

The 100m medley relay team of Rock, D’Arcey, Baumann and Chilton was first. The 100m free relay team of D’Arcey, Chilton, Hegmans and Rock was second.

In the 11/12 division, Kennedy Urie was second in the 25m butterfly and 50m free, as well as third in the 50m back. Haley Pawliw advanced with a second in 50m back, third in 25m fly and a fourth in 50m free. Loralai Moreau-Dalpee was fourth in 50m back, fifth in 100m IM and 50m free. Kayley Hegmans was fourth in 100m IM, sixth in 50m free and 50m back. Aurelie Bronkhorst was second in 50m breast and seventh in 100m IM. Nicole D’Arcey was third in 100m breast. Rory Jackson was sixth in 50m breast.

The 100m Medley relay team of Pawliw, Jackson, Nicole D’Arcey and Kennedy Urie was second. The 200m free relay team of Moreau-Dalpee, Kennedy Urie, Kayley Hegmans and Pawliw was second and the team of Jackson, Aurelie Bronkhorst, Kayley Hegmans and ? Nancekevill was third.

In 13/14 Hailey Miller won the 50m breast and finished second in 50m free. Elle Cottrill was third in 40m breast and 100m breast and fourth in 50m free. Maia Hinchberger was fourth in 50m back, fifth in 100m IM and sixth in 50m free. Abby Hegmans was fifth in 50m free and 50m back. Caitlyn Moffat was fourth in 50m breast and seventh in 50m free. Elizabeth Casciano was fifth in 100m free and seventh in 50m back. Rina Casciano was fifth in 50m fly and eighth in 100m IM.

Rina Casciano, Cottrill, Moffat and Miller were second in the 200m Medley relay, while the team of Abby Hegmans, Hinchberger, and Elizabeth and Rina Casciano was third.

In the open division, Peyton Brooker was fourth in the 200m IM and the 50m fly, as well as seven in 100m free.

In the boys 8 and under division, Ben White won the 25m free and the 25m back. He was also third in 25m breast. The 100m free relay team of L. Rock, Thompson, S. White and B., White finished third.

In 9/10, Evan Graham won the 100m IM and the 25m back. He was also second in 25m fly. Aaron Urie also had two first place finishes. He won the 50m free and the 25m breast, as well as posting a second place finish in 25m back. Burton Bronkhorst was second in 50m free, third in 25m breast, fourth in 100m IM. Alex White was third in 50m free, 25m back and 100m IM.

The 100m medley relay team of Graham, B. Bronkhorst, A. Urie and A. White finished first.

In 11/12 boys division, Kayne Lee won 50m free and 50m breast. He also was second in 25m fly. Sean McArthur was second in 50m back, third in 50m breast and fifth in 50m free. Kingston Fisher was sixth in 50 m free, 50m back and 50m breast.

In 13/14, Lucas Bronkhorst won all three events he raced in – the 100m free, the 100m back and the 100m breast.

The 200m free relay team of Fisher, Lee, L. Bronkhorst and McArthur was first overall.
