Believe it or not, hockey season is quickly approaching.

The Nicol Insurance Kincardine Bulldogs announced a half-dozen signings last week.

Kincardine General Manager Doug Kennedy confirmed the four signings reported in the June 14 edition of The Kincardine Independent - Jake Fair, Connor Gibson, Justin Marlowe and Kent Ribey.

He also announced that the Bulldogs have signed goaltender Ethan Primeau and Jesse Carnahan of Owen Sound. Primeau is from Kincardine.

"We're excited," said Kennedy. "We think we have signed six of the best local players that were available."

The next priority for Kennedy is to get his returning players to sign cards for the 2017-18 Provincial Junior Hockey League season.

"We will be signing our veterans in the next two or three weeks," said Kennedy. "We have 16 or 17 players returning, but we are still going to have four or five roster spots up for grabs."

Kennedy also welcomed Tyler Royle to the team's coaching staff. Royle will join Jeremy McQuillin as an assistant coach to Shawn Burrows.

The team won't be back on the ice until Aug. 13. But once that date hits, the team will be on the ice often with a series of exhibition preseason games planned, as well as a mini-tournament Kincardine will host Aug. 27. Walkerton, Wellesley, Stayner and North Middlesex will be at the Davidson Centre to take part in that event.
