Big weekend for Bulls

It was a big weekend for the Western Ontario Baseball Association Bulls, and four players from the Kincardine Minor Baseball Association captured AA tournament championships as a result.

Jordan Beisel won a minor bantam championship in London, as the Bulls defeated a solid Chatham team 5-3 in the tournament final.

Rob McGregor, Liam Colhoun and Anthony Travale, meanwhile, won the Brantford major bantam AA tournament as the Bulls beat the two-time defending OBA champions from Barrie 6-5 in that tourney final.

All four players play on the Kincardine bantam Cardinals, but join the Bulls for a league-tournament team. Beisel plays on the 2003 Bulls, while Colhoun, McGregor and Travale are on the 2002 squad.

Both minor and major teams are comprised of players from various centres in the WOBA, which includes Listowel, Mitchell, Hanover, Owen Sound and Centre-Wellington. The WOBA has teams from mosquito right up to bantam, and the selection process was completed in September of 2016. The teams began training on a weekly basis in January.

The players still play a regular season in their respective towns and with their own OBA teams. Players then get together and enter AA and AAA baseball tournaments throughout the summer. It gives players a chance to play some extra, and more competitive, baseball above the D centre level.

The other WOBA teams also have some local content on roster. Playing at the peewee and mosquito level are KMBA players Nate Arnold, Thomas Harmsworth, Jared Houghton, Trent Houghton and Peyton Howald.
