Kincardine District Secondary School hosted the Bluewater Athletic Association badminton championships last week and captured a BAA mixed doubles title.

Madison Beishuizen and Dax Tompkins won the junior mixed doubles event. The pair defeated Maddie McGilveary and Todd Johnson of Chesley District Community School in the final.

It was the only first place finish of the day for KDSS. Beishuizen and Tompkins advanced to the CWOSSA junior badminton championships, which were also held last week in Kitchener.

KDSS did pick up a couple of third place finishes, however. Jennelle Smeltzer was third in senior girls singles, while the team of Jake Colley and Ronny Blanchard finished third in senior boys doubles.

Those three KDSS athletes advanced to the CWOSSA senior tournament, which was also held last week in Kitchener. Results from the CWOSSA badminton championships were not available as of press time.

RUGBY

The KDSS girls rugby team kicked off the season Monday afternoon in Walkerton against the Sacred Heart High School Crusaders. The Knights ran all over SHHS 34-0.

The rugby team will be in action again next Monday in Hanover with a double header. Games against SHHS and John Diefenbaker Secondary School are on the schedule.

SOCCER

Both the boys and girls soccer teams at KDSS opened the season yesterday (Tuesday) in Walkerton against Walkerton District Community School. And both teams will be in action again tomorrow (Thursday) at home.

The boys are to take on Chesley at 2 p.m. at the Davidson Centre, while the girls will also play the CDCS Cougars at 3:45 p.m., or immediately following the boys match.

Next week the soccer teams will again play on the road Tuesday and at home on Thursday. Tuesday both teams will be in Hanover to face JDSS and Thursday the squads will entertain the Saugeen District Secondary Royals from Port Elgin.
