The Elmira SugarKings took a 2-0 series lead on Listowel into Game 3 of the Cherrey Cup last night (Tuesday).

Elmira took Game 1 of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's Midwestern Conference finals in Listowel in overtime Friday night. Jeff Jordan scored early in overtime to snap a 3-3 tie. Sunday afternoon in Elmira, Kincardine native Ethan Skinner set up Jake Brown for the game winning goal early in the third period. Brown had all three goals in Elmira's 3-2 win.

Game 3 of the series was played last night (Tuesday) in Listowel. Game 4 is tonight (Wednesday) in Elmira at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 5 is Friday in Listowel at 7:30 p.m. Game 6 would be played Sunday in Elmira and if a seventh game is necessary it would be played Monday evening in Listowel.

Skinner has nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 12 playoff games so far on this run. That includes one assist in each of the first two games of this series. A former Sutherland Cup champion, Skinner has significantly more playoff experience than younger brother Danny, who plays defence for Listowel. The younger Skinner did win a Western Junior C League playoff championship last year, however, with the Nicol Insurance Kincardine Bulldogs.

Listowel finished first overall in the Midwestern Conference with a 40-7-1-2 record this season while the SugarKings were second at 38-11-1-0. The Cyclones swept Brantford and then Waterloo to get to the Cherrey Cup, while Elmira swept Guelph before eliminating Kitchener in six games.
