It would appear the Bluewater Athletic Association's South Division is pretty evenly matched.

The Kincardine District Secondary School boys hockey team closed out 2016 with a 2-2 draw against Saugeen District Secondary School Dec. 23 at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

It was the third tie game this season for KDSS. The Knights are in first place with a 1-0-3 record and five points. They have played four games, however, one more than the Royals (0-1-2) and the Sacred Heart High School Crusaders (1-1-1).

Against SDSS, the Knights took a 2-0 lead, but the Royals fought back to tie the game before the end of the second period. Troy Courneyea scored first for SDSS before Paul Leger evened the score with an absolute beauty of a goal, going coast to coast and finishing late in the middle stanza.

The teams traded chances, but neither could find the back of the net again in this game.

That game wrapped up the regular season schedule for the Knights. SDSS and SHHS still must meet to complete their schedules. In the BAA North Division, the St. Mary's High School Mustangs hold down top spot with a 2-0-1 record.

In girls hockey action, KDSS will return to the ice Jan. 11 at home. The Mustangs will be in town to play the 2-0 Knights, who have been idle since Dec. 14.

The 2-4 senior boys volleyball team is back on the court next Tuesday, Jan. 10.

KDSS will be in Port Elgin for regular season games against SDSS and the John Diefenbaker Secondary School Trojans.

The KDSS boys curling team will look to get back on track next Wednesday in Port Elgin against the Royals. The Knights are coming off an 11-1 pounding at the hands of Chesley District Community School just prior to the holidays.

The Knights take a 0-1-1 record into the draw, while the Royals are 2-0.
