Nuclear emergency exercise next week

The Province of Ontario along with the Municipalities of Kincardine and Saugeen Shores, the County of Bruce and Bruce Power will be holding a full-scale, nuclear emergency exercise from Oct. 3-7.

The exercise, “Huron Resolve”, will simulate an emergency that requires co-ordination between a wide-range of organizations.

The goal of the exercise is to test emergency protocols and procedures with all the participating government agencies and organizations. The focus will be on the Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response Plan. The last nuclear exercise was held in October 2012.

Area residents should expect to see an increase in emergency vehicles and response personnel in the area as the exercise gets underway.

The Municipality of Kincardine will use the Davidson Centre as an evacuation and reception centre on Oct. 6. The Canadian Red Cross, the Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance will also be taking part in this emergency response plan.
