PETER MONTGOMERY (Oct. 17, 1929 – Aug. 13, 2016)

We have lost a fine, sweet man, Peter Orr Montgomery.

He was the son of Alexander Eugene Montgomery, born in Tiverton, and Marjorie Jane Orr.

His wife, Allison Kirk-Montgomery, is grateful for forty years in his loving company. Peter was the happy centre of our rambunctious clan. He is mourned by daughter Lézanne, her husband Pierre Seunik and our grandchildren Max and Emily; by daughter Alexandra and husband Howard Jang; by daughter Stefanie, husband Hans Morsches, and grandchildren Chloé, Makenna, and Fredrik; by son Kirk and wife Heather Whitehouse and grandson Iain; and by son John and wife Stephanie Massot.

He was the beloved brother of Marilyn Watford, cherished brother-in-law of Eileen Kirk and Brian Gibbs, kind son-in-law to Anne Kirk, and dear uncle to his niece and nephews Jane, Matthew, Steve, and Bruce Watford, and Elliott Gibbs.

Through his decades with Canadian Tire, particularly as a dealer in Brampton until 1998, he will be remembered fondly by customers, staff, fellow dealers, and by the many he mentored.

He was a model for living. “You don’t burn out, you rust out,” he’d tell us between games of squash or tennis and after swimming, sailing and on family dog walks at our cottage at Inverhuron - his favourite place on earth.

Even in these last tough years, he always reminded us that the glass was half full, not half empty. We ask our Bruce County friends to remember Peter by enjoying a glass of red while listening to Count Basie or Erroll Garner, by reciting a bit of a poem or by telling a bad joke or especially by toasting thesunset over Lake Huron in gratitude for another great day, as he loved to do.

In his memory, please donate to the wonderful Kensington Hospice, 38 Major Street, Toronto or to your local hospice, or advocate for more home palliative care services.

Fly to the sky, Peter. We thank you and will never forget you.
