Municipal officials, local execs make Ontario Sunshine List

Several public sectors employees in Bruce County were named on the province’s 2015 public salary disclosure report, more commonly known as the Sunshine List.

The list is published by the Ontario government each year, but the $100,000 has not changed since the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act came into effect in 1996. According to a report from the provincial treasury board, if the threshold was adjusted for inflation, it would be $146,774, reducing the number of employees included in the disclosure list by 83 per cent.

Six employees with the Municipality of Kincardine made the list, which discloses the salaries of public sector employees who earn more than $100,000. Murray Clarke earned $191,000 last year for his dual role as CAO and public works director. Building and planning director Michele Barr earned $115,000; clerk Donna MacDougall earned just under $114,000; and fire chief Kent Padfield, parks and recreation director Karen Kieffer and treasurer Roxana Baumann each earned approximately $111,000.

Just two employees with the Township of Huron-Kinloss made the list. Administrator Mary Rose Walden earned $135,000 in 2015 and public works director Hugh Nichol earned $104,000.

A total of 18 employees with the County of Bruce earned salaries of more than $100,000 last year. CAO Kelley Coulter was paid the most, with a salary of $164,000.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson earned $116,550 in 2015.

Superintendent of business Robert Cummings, human relations executive officer Cynthia Lemon and superintendent of education Jean Stephenson each earned $154,000.
