Twelve charged in distracted driving crackdown

Locally, police charged 11 people with distracted driving and one other person with careless driving during a recent six-day campaign targeting distracted driving.

Province wide, OPP officers charged 1,575 motorists with distracted driving between March 14 and March 20. Another 43 were charged with careless driving.

"Distracted driving is not only illegal; it has...quickly become the most significant casual factor in serious crashes on Ontario highways," said Inspector Dana Earley, Detachment Commander for the South-Bruce OPP.

She said although the campaign may have ended, the South-Bruce OPP will constantly be on the watch for distracted driving.
