OldStars tournament turns 40

Annual celebration this weekend

This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of the Kincardine Erie Belle OldStars Hockey Tournament.

The always popular event isn't straying too much from tradition for its 40th anniversary - the OldStars are sticking with what works. This year's tournament is actually one of the smaller tournaments the club has held over the years. A total of 12 teams will be in town competing in three different divisions. There is an oldtimers division (35+), a women's division and a men's recreational division (no carded players).

As always the weekend will kick off with the Kincardine tykes playing their final games of the season. The Level 3 tykes will play at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by the junior tykes at 5:15 p.m. and the senior tykes at 6 p.m. The players are treated to hot dogs and pop in the Davidson Centre hall following the contests.

The other divisions will kick off action as well on Friday evening in both Kincardine and Tiverton.

On Saturday, the on-ice action continues in both Tiverton and Kincardine but the place to be will be the hall at the Davidson Centre. There will be free live entertainment from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. featuring "Miles of Bones". The annual dance will then begin at 9 p.m. in the hall. There will also be live music at the dance, with "Bones of Contention" performing for the crowd. All players in the tournament will be admitted to the dance free, but there will be a $5 cover for the general public after 10 p.m. It is an age of majority event.

Finally, the action will wrap up on Sunday with Division finals. All of Sunday's action will take place at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine. The Ladies A Division final is at 11 a.m. on Sunday, followed by the oldtimer's division at 12:30 and the men's rec division at 1:30 p.m.
