Meurs sets new ECHL record

Garrett Meurs set a new franchise record and an East Coast Hockey League record Sunday night.

Ripley native Garrett Meurs scores his second goal in four seconds Sunday night in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The feat set a new franchise record and a new league record - thought it wasn't enough to get the Komets a win. They were defeated in a shootout. (photo courtesty of J. Meurs scored twice in four seconds, a franchise record and also an ECHL record for fastest goals by the same player. It also set an ECHL record for quickest three goals - it came right after Colorado's Sean Ringrose scored, so three goals in 18 seconds.

Exactly one week after being absolutely robbed by Toledo netminder Jeff Lerg in a save-of-the-year candidate Meurs made his own highlight reel. Both goals were nice to watch - the first a toe-drag through the crease and the second walking in from the face-off at centre and scoring on a snap shot to the blocker side.

Unfortunately, the two goals weren't enough for the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday. The Colorado Eagles scored in overtime to leave Indiana with a 5-4 win.
