Peewees play for Silver Stick title today

All championships decided today in Kincardine

The Kincardine Legion peewee Kinucks will play for a Regional Silver Stick championship today (Wednesday) on home ice.

Kincardine will face Listowel at 1:30 p.m. today, with the Bantam B championship on the line at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine. It should be a good one. Kincardine and Listowel locked horns yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon in Tiverton, the final preliminary round game for both teams. That game finished in a 1-1 tie.

While the Kinucks will be playing on home ice today, it is Listowel who will officially be the home team after finishing one point ahead of Kincardine in the preliminary round of the Silver Stick tournament. Kincardine’s goal against Listowel yesterday was the first goal Listowel had allowed in this tournament. Josh Jacklin posted all three shutouts between the pipes for Listowel against Walkerton, Mitchell and Tavistock.

The Kinucks opened with a 6-3 win over Walkerton before playing Mitchell to a 2-2 draw on opening day. Monday, Kincardine edged out Tavistock 3-2. Quinton Page, called up from the atoms, had a hat trick for Kincardine along the way.

While the peewee game is expected to fill the stands at the Davidson Centre, a good crowd should be on hand for a full day of championship games. Though Kincardine failed to advance in the novice and bantam divisions, there will still be plenty of entertainment today in town. It all starts at 9 a.m. with the novice C final between Kurtzville-Wallace and Thornbury-Meaford-Georgian Shores.

Seaforth was relentless in a 10-0 hammering of the Kincardine peewee Selects in novice C division action on Sunday afternoon in Tiverton. Seaforth will play for the division title today against West-Grey prior to the novice B final between the Kincardine Legion peewee Kinucks and Listowel. (Josh Howald photo)

At 10:30 a.m., Mitchell and Twin Centre will face off in the novice B final, followed by the peewee C final between West-Grey and Seaforth at noon. Following the peewee B final between the Kinucks and Listowel, South-Bruce and Minto Twp. will play off for the bantam C championship. And four days of hockey will conclude with the bantam B championship game at 4:45 p.m. Twin Centre and Tavistock will play in that contest. The winners will qualify for the International Silver Stick tournament later next month.
