Kincardine native Garrett McFadden will represent Team OHL in a Nov. 12 game in Owen Sound against the Russian National Junior Team.

The Guelph Storm defenceman is one of 36 players selected to play for Team OHL in the international exhibition series. After playing two games against Western Hockey League players, the Russians will be in Owen Sound on Nov. 12 and in Windsor for Game 4 on Nov. 16. The six-game series will wrap up with two games in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League arenas.

"I was a little surprised at first," said McFadden on Monday morning. "But it was great to hear, and that I'm playing in the Owen Sound game was even better news. I'm definitely excited, and have the game in the back of my head right now to motivate me, especially when our team is struggling."

It hasn't been an ideal start to the season for the Storm. Guelph is sporting a dismal 1-10-1 record after dropping a pair of games at home on the weekend to Niagara and Kingston. McFadden had an assist in each of those contests, and is currently second in team scoring with a goal and five assists.

While a core group of players will represent the OHL in both the Owen Sound and Windsor games, McFadden will join the squad only for the Owen Sound start. Joining him in the line-up for that game will be two Attack players, Michael McNiven and Florida draft pick Thomas Scemitsch.

In the 12 years that this six-game series has been held between the CHL and the Russians, the OHL has a record of 20-3-1. Last year, the OHL dropped a 4-0 game in Peterborough but bounced back with a 5-1 win in Kingston. All six games will be broadcast live on national telecast on Sportsnet.

"It should be a great experience, and I can't wait to share it with friends and family at the Bayshore," said McFadden.
