A couple of kayakers were rescued early last Saturday morning - and then charged.

At 6:50 a.m. on July 18, the South-Bruce OPP received a distress call from two men who were operating kayaks on Lake Huron. Despite a heavy fog settling in, members of the South-Bruce OPP Marine Unit conducted a search and located the men.

Officers discovered neither man was wearing a life jacket. They were taken back to the Kincardine harbour and assessed by Bruce County Paramedics. Both men were charged under the Canada Shipping Act for operating a vessel without a life jacket.

The South-Bruce OPP Marine Unit wants all vessel operators to carry the required safety equipment every time they leave the dock. When you need it is not the time to discover you don't have it.
