New leader in Chantry Chinook derby

Katie MacMillan is the new leader of the 2015 Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby.
Derrick Griffiths of Kincardine, left, and Ernest Ackert of Lurgan Beach had some luck on the water Sunday. Ackert reeled in a couple of trout that weighed 11.69 and 10.6 pounds while Griffiths caught an 8-pound rainbow trout and a six-pound laker. (Barb McKay photo)
MacMillan, from Kitchener, brought in a 14.64-pound chinook salmon on Monday evening to bump Cambridge's Ray Eaton out of top spot. Eaton had taken the lead earlier in the day, when he brought in a 14.08-pound chinook. Both of the fish were weighed in at the Saugeen Shores weigh station.
But Bob Hicks of Kincardine still leads the trout division of Lake Huron's largest fishing derby. Hicks brought in a monster lake trout that weighed in at 24.61- pounds on Monday morning. That's nearly eight pounds heavier than the second place trout currently on the leaderboard. Third place in the trout division still belongs to Kincardine's Paul Bester. Karen Passmore of Kincardine and Travis Breton of Ripley are also on the trout division leaderboard.
The derby continues all week.
