A 46-year-old man was killed in a farm accident along Concession 7, Kincardine Twp. last Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Just before 6 a.m., the South-Bruce OPP received a report of the incident. Officers attended the scene with members of the Tiverton Fire Department and Bruce County Paramedics to discover the man had become trapped in a corn picker in a row of a large corn field.

Police released his name on Wednesday. Brian McConnell, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. A memorial service was held Monday morning in Ripley for McConnell, who grew up in the Kincardine area.

The South-Bruce OPP said they are investigating the incident, along with the Ministry of Labour and the Office of the Coroner.

"The South-Bruce OPP recognizes that farming can be a stressful occupation with long hours, large fields to work and tight deadlines," said police in an issued release regarding the incident. "Farm owners and operators are asked to work within their limits and always ensure they keep personal safety in mind."
