The Kincardine Independent is pleased to announce the office dog, Daisy Howald, will launch a new feature for the newspaper.

Like most, Daisy enjoys a good game of orange ball on her down time. This brown and black dog wants to know if you know a dog worthy of being "pick of the litter" in the pages of The Independent. (Independent file photo)

Daisy's pick for Dog of the Week will appear weekly, and highlight some of Kincardine's brightest canines.

A nine-year-old mutt who lives on Hunter Street in Kincardine with Independent reporter Josh Howald, she decided it was time to branch out from her regular duties as greeter and squirrel eradication at the Independent's Queen Street office.

"From what I have read in The Independent, as well as all the friendly people who stop by the paper with treats, the people of Kincardine love dogs," Daisy said in an interview from the floor of the newsroom Monday afternoon.

"This is a good chance to showcase some of our readers best friends and closest companions. There will be no shortage of 'good dogs', I'm sure."

Daisy is best known locally for her role in the Kincardine Theatre Guild's production of Annie: The Musical, in which she starred alongside Alexandra Chapleau in the award winning production. She has graced the pages of the 2013 Kincardine and Area Tourist Guide, and remains the only dog to ever ride on the H.H. Graham of the OPP Marine Unit. She has accepted the search for a dog of the week on top of her existing duties at The Independent.

If your dog, or a dog you know, would be a perfect pick for Daisy's Dog of the Week, send an e-mail to The Independent offices at indepen@bmts.com. We require a quality photograph and the following information. Name, age, breed, hometown, any special talents and anything else that makes your furry friend special.
