A series of small fires in the south end of Inverhuron Provincial Park have Kincardine's fire chief worried.
Kincardine fire fighters have responded to a pair of fire calls in the area of Inverhuron Provincial Park near Rainbow Bridge since July 29. While investigating these fires, fire crews also discovered evidence of three other small fires.

"Our biggest worry is if someone is trying to get a fire going, or just playing with fire," says fire chief Jamie MacKinnon. "Our concern is to the residents in the area. A larger fire could make it (hard to warn residents quickly)."

The first fire, on July 29, burned a 20square foot area of the brush. The fires have all been started in areas well off the established trails.

MacKinnon and his staff met with South Bruce OPP officers last week to discuss the problem. The two agencies wanted to warn the public about the dangers and also hoped to discourage the suspect from starting any more fires.

"We just want (the suspect) stopped," MacKinnon says. "And let residents know there is a small problem - and they should keep their eyes open."

Fire officials and the police are asking anyone with information on the fires to come forward. Any suspicious behavior near the park's Rainbow Bridge is also to be reported.

The South Bruce OPP also warn residents that setting fires could lead to charges of mischief, mischief endangering life or arson.
