Donors needed as blood supply thins

Donations are urgently requested for the Blood Donor Clinic next week, Wednesday, March 12 from 1-8 p.m. The Kincardine collection target is 202 units.

Staff from Canadian Blood Services told The Independent last week that due to the bad weather this winter, donations have been slow. Many recent clinics were cancelled and attendance overall has decreased. With next week’s clinic taking place during March Break, there is some concern that local supplies may start to run low as families are busy with vacation activities.

Every minute of every day, someone in Canada is receiving a blood transfusion. It can take up to five donors a week to help someone undergoing cancer treatment. To encourage donations, local donors are asked to bring a friend, colleague or family member along to donate, or to encourage others with social media postings about their own donation.

You can also plan future donations by visiting the website www.blood.ca or by calling 1-888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) if you are unable to attend on March 12.
