Weather worry

Snow forces road closures, cancellations

It might be more newsworthy if it ever stops snowing in Kincardine.

The wild winter weather continues, as blowing snow and frigid temperatures forced the closure of both Highway 21 and Highway 9 today shortly after lunch. Though Highway 9 was briefly opened this afternoon, it has once again been closed between Kincardine and Walkerton.

Tomorrow Grand Prix de Kincardine, snowmobile races in Tiverton, will not proceed tomorrow, but are scheduled to still take place on Sunday. Minor hockey games, senior hockey games and two of three scheduled Western Junior C hockey games tonight were called off, as well as a number of other scheduled events. Police issued a release earlier today urging people to stay off the roads.

Widwspead blowing snow was expected to continue overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning. An blowing snow warning was issued this morning as an Arctic low pressure system blew through Southwestern Ontario. Combined with blowing snow, wreaked havoc on roads everywhere. It reached as low as -14 celsius today, more than -26 with the wind chill.

The ongoing inclement weather

The ongoing inclement weather is the worst thing. This is indeed a green house effect. Or the global warming is solely responsible. Deforestation must be stopped.
