Wolves drop two

Host Muskies Friday

For the first time this season, the Ripley Wolves have dropped three consecutive games.

The Wolves lost twice on the weekend in a pair of close games.

Friday night in Lucknow, the Wolves were edged out 3-1 by the Lucknow Lancers.

Lucknow used a pair of power play goals from Jon MacKinnon and Brad Burton to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Ripley cut the lead in half in the second frame, but Kincardine’s Ryan Murley scored a third period goal for the Lancers to put the game out of reach.

The following night at home, Ripley was defeated 5-4 in an entertaining contest with the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.

Ripley kept falling behind in the contest, but kept answering back to tie the game several times.

With the game tied 4-4, Tim Hammell scored a power play goal for the Winterhawks with three minutes remaining. Hammell’s goal stood up as the game winner.

With the win, the Winterhawks improve to 13-2-1, good for first place in the WOAA North. The Wolves are now in sixth place with a 9-6-0-1 record with three regular season games remaining.

This weekend the Wolves will host the second place Shelburne Muskies for an 8:30 start Friday night. It is Ripley’s lone game of the weekend.

The Wolves have two other games remaining – a home game Jan. 23 against Walkerton and a trip to Palmerston Jan. 25.
