The Carruthers Nicol Insurance Kincardine Bulldogs now have a date for their first playoff game - they just don't have the opposition yet.
The Bulldogs will host Game 1 of the Western Junior C semi-final series on Monday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The opposition could be Mitchell, Hanover, Mount Forest of Wingham. The Walkerton Hawks completed a four-game sweep of Goderich last night, pasting the hapless the Sailors 11-2, mercifully ending a season in which they won just one game all season. The Hawks outscored Goderich 40-4 in this four game series.
It won't be Walkerton, the number one seed. The Hawks will face the low seed left after this round, which is getting entertaining. Both the Mount Forest - Wingham series and the Hanover - Mitchell series are all even heading into Friday night Game 5s. Fifth seed Mount Forest shut out the fourth place Wingham Ironmen l4-0 last night at home, while the sixth ranked Barons knocked off third place Mitchell 5-2, also at home. Game 5 for both of those two series are Friday night at the higher seed's barn.
In other local sports news last night, Craig Milburn's Kincardine rink was defeated by Steve Gregg in Major Curling League at the Kincardine Curling Club. Milburn went down 6-1 to Gregg, and must now play a one-game tiebreaker on Monday night with the eighth and final playoff position on the line.
Don't miss next week's print edition of The Kincardine Independent, and don't forget about tonight's triple header of playoff hockey action tonight at the Davidson Centre beginning at 6 p.m. with the Legion peewees. The bantams are up follwoing that game, followed by the midgets against Listowel.
