A 29-year-old man is facing numerous charges following a bizarre incident at Sacred Heart Church on Victoria Street South in Walkerton.
At 3:35 a.m. on Oct. 7, police received a report of a person smashing the back door of the church. South-Bruce OPP officers arrived to find a male shouting, while swinging an axe at the church’s back door. The man refused to comply with police instructions, and walked towards one of the officers brandishing the axe. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed, and the man was taken into custody without further incident.
A Brant Twp. man was charged with mischief, possession of a dangerous weapon, assaulting a peace officer and breach of probation. He appeared in court Oct. 10, 2012 to answer to the charges.
