Clean sweep for Knights


It was a clean sweep for the Knights.

The Kincardine District Secondary School girls volleyball team earned straight set wins over Sacred Heart and Saugeen District last week in Kincardine.

The Knights hosted SHHS and the SDSS Royals for a pair of regular season Bluewater Athletic Association (BAA) games last Tuesday.

“I thought the girls played well,” said coach Andy Ferguson of his squad’s first game against Sacred Heart, a 25-16, 25-11 victory. “They have looked strong (to this point).”

After the straight set win, the Crusaders and the Royals played an entertaining three-set match.

The Royals edged out SHHS 25-21, but Sacred Heart bounced back with a narrow 26-24 win. Serving was the difference in the third and deciding game, and the Royals beat Sacred Heart 15-13 for their first win of the season.

Riding a high, the Royals came out sharp against Kincardine in the day’s final game, but the Knights claimed the first game 25-23. Kincardine then controlled the second game with a 25-17 victory.

Meanwhile, the KDSS junior team also won both of its games.

The girls beat SHHS 25-16, 22-25, 15-3 before defeating SDSS 25-11, 22-25, 15-8.

The other game saw the Crusaders beat SDSS 25-18, 25-17.

Both teams were in Walkerton Thursday to play the Raiders, and the seniors were in Waterloo on the weekend playing in the annual Resurrection Volleyball Tournament.

Rocks: The Kincardine District Secondary School boys curling team had a big win last Tuesday.

The Knights cruised to a 9-3 win over the Chesley District High School Cougars, in Chesley.

The boys team is now 2-0 in Bluewater Athletic Association (BAA) action.

Meanwhile, the girls team fell to 0-2 after being defeated by a strong Chesley team.

Both the boys and girls teams are in action today (Wednesday). The Knights will play host to the Saugeen District Secondary School Royals.

Hoops: The KDSS senior boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season last week in Chesley. The Knights had no problem putting points on the board, earning a 64-47 win.

Meanwhile, the junior Knights walloped the Cougars 84-14.

Thursday in Walkerton, the senior team was edged out 42-37 by the Sacred Heart Crusaders. Chris Nicholson and Mike Adair each had eight points for Kincardine in the lostt.

Matt Helm had 16 points for the KDSS juniors in a 65-36 loss to the Crusaders.
