The Kincardine Home Hardware novice rep team opened the playoffs with a win Saturday afternoon.

Facing Saugen Shores in a best-of-three, Kincardine got off to a slow start in Game 1 of the series. Luckily, it was still 0-0 after the opening frame.

Saugeen Shores did score the first goal of the game, however, in the second period. Jordan Beisel tied the game for Kincardine early in the third period when he scored from Jordan Moulton. Three minutes later, Beisel scored again from Cody McLelland to give Kincardine its first lead of the game.

Kincardine called a timeout prior to a late power play, and Beisel completed his hattrick shortly after off a great set-up by Moulton. The Kinucks took the 3-1 win, with Ryan Wheeler picking up his first career playoff win.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Tiverton. If a third game is necessary, it will be Sunday, Feb. 26 in Kincardine at 3:30 p.m. The winner of this series will advance to the WOAA semi-finals.
