'Dogs drop opener

Steve Kerr scored a shorthanded goal with four minutes remaining to lift the Wingham Ironmen to a 2-1 lead tonight at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

Shawn Stewart scored the first home goal of the season for the Carruthers Nicol Insurance Kincardine Bulldogs Saturday night. His powerplay goal from Hayden Allen and rookie Greg Scott gave the 'Dogs a 1-0 first period lead. Aaron Armstrong tied the game with a goal late in the second period, and Kerr had the game winner from Justin Jacklin late in the third.

Kincardine spent much of the third period shorthanded. They earned 22 minutes in the box in the final frame, which left Kincardine short two men on two occasions. Gatlin Burt had made 40 saves in this contest before he was ejected for shooting the puck over the glass following Kerr's winner.

Kincardine is now 0-1-1 in Western Junior C regular season action after losing 2-1 in a shootout Friday night to the Mitchell Hawks.

Elsewhere in the Western League tonight, the Hanover Barons hammered Goderich 8-2 while the Walkerton Hawks held a late 4-2 lead on Mount Forest. A pair of former Bulldog goaltender were facing off in that game, with Keegan Woodman getting the nod for the Hawks and Brian Hainsworth getting the not for Mount Forest.
