KDSS tennis team has won three straight BAA titles

It’s hard to argue with results.

These results say that the Kincardine District Secondary School tennis program has won three consecutive Bluewater Athletic Association (BAA) championships.

KDSS claimed its third straight overall tennis title in Southampton Oct. 7 on the strength of tourney wins by the doubles team, the mixed doubles team and solid finishes from several singles players.

The mixed doubles team of Lydia Treidlinger and Michael Yun won gold, as did the boys doubles team of Troy Campbell and Anirudha Panditrao.

Meanwhile, both Mohini Nema and Jakeb Siekierski advanced in singles play after second place finishes at the BAA championship, which was delayed a week due to weather.

The six players were at CWOSSA in Kitchener Thursday, and helped KDSS to one of its best showing in years.

While all the players won at least one match on the day, it was Nema that returned to KDSS with a medal.

Nema won a hard-fought third place game to bring home a CWOSSA bronze medal.

Kicki Van Leeuwen of Owen Sound’s West Hill Secondary School, who beat Nema for the BAA championship, won girls singles.

Other BAA champions crowned in Southampton included the girl’s doubles team of Merel ben Westreenen and Elie Brooker of Georgian Bay Secondary and boys singles champion David Canstantinescu of Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin.
