Power outage attributed to Hydro One failure

A power outage Friday that knocked out power to most homes and businesses in Kincardine was caused by a loss of supply from Hydro One, according to Westario’s president.

Lisa Milne said the outage lasted no longer than two and a half hours, starting at around 10:30 a.m.

“As soon as Hydro One was able to switch customers back to another feeder, power was restored,” she said.

Milne said the problem does happen occasionally, but it was unclear Friday why there was a loss of supply.

“It’s one of those things that was out of our hands, so we don’t really know why it happened,” she said.

Aside from the power outage, Kincardine was dumped with several inches of snow over early Friday morning, which closed Highway 21 from Port Elgin to Goderich, portions of Highway 9 and Bruce Road 23.

Area schools were closed for the day as a result.
