The boys of summer are back.
The Kincardine Cubs will kick off the 2010 baseball season Saturday afternoon at home. The Cubs, who play in the Thames Valley Senior Baseball League, will host the expansion Listowel Legionaires for a 2 p.m. start on Tout Field at Connaught Park.
Byron has left the Thames Valley League, but South London and Listowel have joined, meaning it will be a 10-team league this season. The Mitchell Astros are the defending league champions, having beat Kincardine in the finals last year. The Cubs won the Thames Valley League two seasons ago, and also in 2006.
Kincardine will play a home-and-home series with each team in the league for a 20-game season. The team’s second game will also be at home May 30, when the Cubs will host Strathroy. After that, it’s a five-game road trip that lasts the entire month of June. Kincardine will travel to Listowel, Strathroy, Thorndale, Mitchell and London before returning home to play South London on July 4.
