Basketball thrives in the community

Kincardine POWER Basketball is an elite Bruce County community basketball league that is gaining popularity in the county while uncovering undiscovered talent.

 

The league promises to prepare participants for success both on and off the court by following the tenets of the team name - POWER - representing persistence, obedience, working hard, positive energy and respect.

Seven athletes representing Kincardine joined their peers from Port Elgin, Owen Sound, Walkerton and Hanover to compete at the Special Olympics winter provincial games in Sault St. Marie on Jan. 31 to Feb 3.

 


Kincardine Community Achievement Award nominees announced

 

The Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce has announced the nominees for the 2019 Community Achievement Awards.

 

There are three nominees for each of the 14 awards sponsored by Kincardine businesses and organizations. The awards will be presented at a gala at Ainsdale Golf Course on March 2. The three nominees for this year’s Bruce Power Citizen of the Year Award are Tom Desmond, Pete Richards and Alana Rozen.

 


EILEEN BLACK

 

Eileen Black (nee Holmes) passed away peacefully at Trillium Court on Feb. 7, 2019, in her 96th year.

 

Beloved wife of Gordon Black (1988).

 

Dearly loved by her children Bev Pollock (Wayne), Douglas, Richard (Sandy Wallace), Robert, Thomas (Karen Ellis) and Ralph.

 

Remembered fondly by her nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

Predeceased by parents Fred and Edna Holmes and also two siblings, Horace and Ruth Paul. She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Underhill and Elizabeth Beros, and brother Douglas.

 


KELSEY HUNTER

 

Kelsey Elizabeth Mary Hunter of Tiverton and formerly Kincardine passed away suddenly on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at the age of 23.

 

 

Beloved companion of Cole Johnston of Tiverton.

 


TRINI KING

 

Trientje “Trini” Elizabeth King (née Van de Wetering) passed away peacefully in her 96th year, and with her family at her side, on Feb. 9, 2019, at the Hanover Care Centre in Hanover.

 

 

Beloved mother to Wayne King (Judy) of Kincardine.

 


GLENN LEWIS

 

Glenn Lewis of RVilla, Ripley, and formerly of Bervie passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at the Kincardine hospital in his 81st year.

 

He was born on Oct. 25, 1938, in Kincardine Township to the late Margaret (Ernest) and Charles Lewis.

 

Survived by his wife Edie Lewis of Tiverton, daughters Valerie (Nick) Chiochio of Stratford and Penny (Al) Ladd of Mitchell, grandchildren Matthew, Adam, Tamara and Trey, and two great-grandchildren. Also missed by his nephew Bevan (Nancy) Lewis of Kincardine. Predeceased by his brother Harold.

 


VERDELLA MAHOOD

 

Verdella Frances Mahood (nee Stepan) of Kincardine passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Manor, on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, in her 98th year.

 

 

Beloved wife of the late Jack Mahood (1976) and special partner of the late Alfred Emery (2005).
