7ACRES to add 400 new jobs for major expansion



The Tiverton cannabis producer announced last week that it will hire more than 400 employees over the next year as it gears up for a large expansion.


7ACRES held a ceremony at the Southampton Golf and Country Club last Wednesday to recognize the first graduates of its School of Management – where 33 people graduated from 10 leadership courses provided by the company. During the ceremony, 7ACRES executives made the announcement that the company plans to expand its facility at the Bruce Energy Centre from three greenhouses to 30 and hire more than 400 people by the end of June 2019.


New doctor coming to Kincardine


A new doctor will be joining the Kincardine Physicians Group early next year.


Last week, the Municipality of Kincardine council approved an agreement with Dr. Catherine Ciszkowski to take up her medical practice at the Hawthorne Community Clinic, beginning January 2019.


Ciszkowski completed her medical degree at McMaster University in Hamilton in 2013, and finished her family medicine residency training via Western University's regional training program in 2015.


Names added to sports wall of fame

The Kincardine Sports Wall of Fame has seven new members this year. One will be added in the builder’s category and six athletes will be added to the wall of fame.




Maurice (Moe) Cotter, formerly of Kincardine, passed away at Pine Crest Manor in Lucknow on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in his 73rd year.


He was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Jean Elizabeth Cotter.

Lurgan Beach-connected Keely Brown makes history with hall of fame induction

A world class athlete with ties to the Kincardine area is the first Ringette athlete to be inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.


Keely Brown, whose parents Doug and Bobbie Brown are Lurgan Beach residents, was one of a dozen athletes – some Olympic medal and world championship winners – to be inducted during a banquet in Red Deer earlier this month. Brown is a Ringette goalie who started playing in Ontario before joining Edmonton WAM! of the National Ringette League. She competed in 19 Canadian Ringette Championships, winning nine gold and eight silver medals.




Orval Wilson passed away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine on Monday, June 11, 2018, in his 90th year.


Beloved husband of the late Lorna Wilson (née Kennedy).


Dear father to Sue (Ron) Gillespie of Holyrood and Ron (Jackie) Wilson of Kincardine.




Ronald Earl Thacker passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on May 14, 2018, after an eight-year battle with cancer. He was 58.


Ron was born in Kincardine to Earl and Jean (Mahood) Thacker, who both predeceased him.


Also predeceased by his brother Jack.




John Edward Matheson Taylor of Tiverton passed away with family by his side on Saturday, June 16, 2018, in his 90th year.


Beloved husband of the late Joan (née Miller) Taylor.


Loving father of Carolyn Smith of Tiverton, Richard (Terry) Taylor of Kincardine, David Taylor of Kincardine and Mark (Lynette) Taylor of Clearwater, B.C.




Barbara Rae Burton (née Brown) of Kincardine passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2018, at the age of 86.


Beloved wife of the late Walter Burton.


Loving mother of Leslie, Don and Jennifer Burton.


Missed by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
