Bantams could make it two titles tonight

The Kincardine Legion peewees defeated Tavistock this afternoon to claim the peewee B championship at the 26th annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament. Kincardine clinched a berth in the International Finals with a 3-0 shutout win over Tavistock today at the Davidson Centre. The bantams could bring home another Silver Stick title, with a 5 p.m. game against South Huron. Peewees, bantams both play for Silver Stick title today

It's Silver Sunday in Kincardine, and both the local peewees and bantams are still alive.

In fact, both will play for a Regional Championship today (Sunday) at the 26th annual Kincardine Silver Stick tournament. The Legion peewees will take on Tavistock at 1:30 p.m. today, following the peewee C final between Minto Township and Norwich. Minto held a 2-1 lead late in the second period at last check.

The Legion peewees defeated South Huron 6-0 in a semi-final contest last night to move to today's final, while Tavistock edged out BCH 3-2 in the other semi.

Bantams reach semi-finals

Silver Sunday starts tomorrow at 9 a.m.

The 26th annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick will come to a head tomorrow at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

Six championship games will be played in total in Kincardine, as six teams will earn berths in the International Silver Stick championship tournaments. And there is a good chance that at least one hometown team will be playing.

The Kincardine bantams finished first overall in group play, and will play in a semi-final game in Kincardine at 5:10 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. The Tim-BR Mart bantams finished off an undefeated three-game run with a 6-1 win over Walkerton earlier today.

The Legion peewees might still be around tomorrow, as well. The peewees were sitting in third place in group play, which would move them to a semi-final game. However, not all teams had finished group play and there is a chance to bantams could finish in a three-way tie.

Strong Silver Stick start


It was wins all around for the Kincardine Minor Hockey Association yesterday as the home team had a solid day at 26th annual Regional Kincardine Silver Stick tournament.

Peewees play at 6:10 p.m. in town

The Kincardine Tim-Br Mart bantams got the start they were looking for this afternoon at the 26th annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament.

The bantam Kinucks skated to a 3-1 win over BCH this afternoon at the Davidson Centre, and will have a short break before taking the ice for a second game later today.

26th annual Regional Silver Stick tourney underway

Let the games begin.

A large snowfall overnight may have hindered travel slightly, but the puck has now dropped in Kincardine, Tiverton and Ripley for the 26th annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament. Arenas in all three centres will be busy for the next three days as 42 novice, peewee and bantam hockey teams vy for a berth at the International Silver Stick championships.

Elementary teachers stage one-day walkout

Kincardine and area elementary school classrooms are empty today.


Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) elementary and occasional teachers are staging a one-day strike in protest of Bill 115. The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has raised concerns that the provincial legislation is impacting local collective bargaining. Letters were sent home with elementary students Monday informing parents and guardians of the one-day withdrawal of services.


Tip nabs impaired driver

A 53-year-old man is facing charges after police received a tip about a truck driving erratically along Brant County Road #4 in Brant Twp. early Friday morning.

Police got a call about the black GMC Sierra at 2:16 a.m., Dec. 14, and officers caught up with the truck shortly after on that road and discovered the driver had, indeed, been drinking alcohol. The Kincardine man was charged with impaired operation, operation over 80 mgs, driving without insurance and failure to surrender a driver’s licence.

He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 14, 2013, to answer to the charges.
