Bruce Power CEO donates $100,000 to Community Living improvements

Bruce Power CEO Duncan Hawthorne put his money where his mouth is.

The keynote speaker at Saturday night’s dinner and silent auction for Community Living followed up his inspiring, entertaining speech on community involvement by making a personal donation of $100,000.

Kincardine food bank sees record numbers

As temperatures dip and heating bills rise more and more people are lining up for the Kincardine food bank.


In October 84 clients used the food bank at the Anglican Church of the Messiah. A client can be an individual or a family and in fact there have been 51 families, including more than 80 children, and 33 single adults who used the food bank that month.


“That’s the highest we’ve ever seen,” said food bank co-coordinator Pat Stewart.

Municipality to tackle Arts Centre mold problem

Interior conditions at the Kincardine Centre for the Arts have prompted the municipality to take action on the building, but only so far as to get rid of mold in the basement.

OPP Festive RIDE campaign underway

The holiday season is quickly approaching, but the OPP’s Festive RIDE campaign is already here.

Saturday marked the start of the annual campaign, which runs until Jan. 2, 2013.

During last year’s Christmas season, the OPP charged 682 drivers with impaired driving and another 583 were issued warn range suspensions for registering a blood alocohol concentration (BAC) between .05 and .08. Locally, the South-Bruce OPP detachment pulled 10 drivers off the road during last year’s campaign. Six people were issued warn range suspensions, while the other four were charged for impaired driving.

New community centre envisioned for Tiverton

Kincardine is investigating the possibility of building a community centre in Tiverton.


At its meeting last Wednesday council poured over a long list of recommendations from municipal staff to do with several municipally-owned buildings. The options were presented after Kincardine hired an engineering firm earlier this year to undertake design feasibility studies and condition reports for the Kincardine Centre for the Arts, Annex building and Whitney Crawford Community Centre (WCCC) in Tiverton. After the Inverhuron Ratepayers Association approached council this past summer to propose a new pavilion that building was also added to the list of projects to be considered.


Silver Stick champions again

For the third consecutive year, the Kincardine Miller Insurance midget hockey team has won a Silver Stick championship.

The Kincardine Miller Insurance midget Kinucks following Sunday's Silver Stick final in Wingham. 


Brody Hayes scored just 12 seconds into overtime Sunday afternoon in Wingham to complete a come-from-behind win in the championship game of the Wingham Regional Silver Stick. Kincardine will now get to defend the International Silver Stick championship in Forest later this year.
